About Me
Hi there! I have formal training as a health psychologist, where I have specifically focused on treatment for psychological experiences specifically due to medical issues, like food allergy. My approach is warm and validating with a healthy dose of honesty. I practice from an integrative framework; for some (particularly children), I use cognitive behavioral approaches combined with parent involvement, which are active and present-focused; for others (particularly college students and adults), my approach also includes attention to identity and earlier life experiences and the ways they may relate to your issues today. I believe strongly in the mind-body connection. Through working with hundreds of children, parents and adults to heal from painful relationships, fear, anxiety, mood concerns, etc, I’ve learned that everyone’s journey is unique — even two people experiencing the same issue may need two different approaches.
In addition to providing psychotherapy/counseling, I was in academia for 15+ years, where I had the privilege of authoring 100+ academic papers, presentations, book/encyclopedia chapters on psychotherapy for children, parents and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, sleep/eating problems and chronic illness, including those from multicultural backgrounds (see here for some samples). My practice, “District Psychology Center,” was named to include this passion of mine. I continue to support health psychology research at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC.
Outside the office, I love creating art, gardening, reading and listening to podcasts. I also enjoy writing, spinning, and traveling.
